Dr. Ernst H. Beutner, PhD
Director
Dr. Ernst H. Beutner has been named "Founder of Immunodermatology" by Stephania Jablonska, MD and Tadeusz Chorzelski, MD. He and his associates at the University of Buffalo were the first to describe pemphigus and pemphigoid as autoimmune diseases, using self-designed Immunofluorescent methods. Dr. Beutner has been certified by the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology and the American Board of Medical Microbiology. In addition, he is a "Life Member" of the American Academy of Dermatology, member of the American Dermatologic Association and five other medical societies. Currently he remains Professor Emeritus of Microbiology and Dermatology, for the University at Buffalo (SUNY).
Dr. Beunter, a world renowned expert, with over 300 publications on skin immunopathology including:
- Four "citation classics" on immunodermatology in the JAMA, J Invest Dermatol & Science Citation Index
- Six books and monographs on skin immunopathology
- Editor of three published symposia on immunofluorescence
Richard W. Plunkett, PhD
Associate Laboratory Director
Dr. Richard W. Plunkett is an affiliate of the American Academy of Dermatology. He obtained his Masters and Ph.D degrees from University at Buffalo, State University of New York in the School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Immunology. After many years experience in field of immunohematologic studies, Dr. Plunkett began a post-doctoral program with Dr. Ernst Beutner studying autoimmune diseases of the skin. The completion of this program and the continuation of this association has allowed expansion into areas beyond direct immunofluorescence (IF) studies and indirect IF studies, including serum testing by ELISA and IF mapping for hereditary epidermolysis bullosa.
Raminder Grover, MD
Assistant Laboratory Director
Dr. Raminder Grover is a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. She is certified by the New York State Department of Health in Diagnostic Immunology, Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology and Parasitology and has years of clinical laboratory experience. She specializes in skin immunopathology, immunofluorescence assays, ELISA and immunoblot assays for the diagnosis of autoimmune skin and mucous membrane diseases.
